Experience
Evan Jarboe’s clinical training has been with adolescents and adults towards psychological improvement, the treatment of anxiety, depression, adjustment, trauma/PTSD, neurodevelopmental, and behavioral disorders. He has received clinical training that broadened his skills with yearly practicum placements, delivering therapy and assessments in multiple settings such as community-based clinics, private practices, universities, and veteran resource centers.
Those experiences included thorough recommendations post-assessment, assisting individuals in their integration/acculturation into the United States, providing culturally-sensitive treatment and care, assisting active duty military members and veterans with their transition in to civilian life, along with short and long term psychotherapy as a continuation of care and intervention.
These diverse training opportunities encouraged Evan to have a flexible approach to intervention, enabling him to implement core concepts from a variety of different models in an integrative manner in all areas of clinical and professional decision-making to better assist my clients needs.
Why Evan Became a Therapist
I knew I wanted to help and listen to others from a very young age. I vividly remember pestering family members to tell me stories about their lives and experiences and I so deeply cherish the opportunities I have had throughout my life to be able to be a curious and earnest witness of others’ truths.
I have an unwavering passion for working towards and advocating for equal access to mental health resources for all, a deep-rooted interest in being a fellow traveler with my clients on their journeys towards a deeper understanding and acceptance of themselves, and a lifelong interest in human prosperity, equity, and diversity.
I have worked tirelessly to develop a therapeutic style that is person-focused, compassionate, and sensitive to diversity and individual differences that encompasses my active cultural humility and awareness.
My clinical career so far has been filled with the absolute pleasure of bearing witness to others stories, experiences, and lessons and I am eternally grateful for the lessons that I have learned from others and extremely humbled by their vulnerability and honesty with me along their journey.
How Evan Lives Authentically
I do my best to live authentically by practicing some form of mindfulness on a daily basis in order to be present with myself, my thoughts, my feelings, my emotions, and my body.
It is quite easy for us to get lost in the “what ifs” of the past and the future and I truly enjoy the process of centering myself in the here and now.
I also proactively engage in a deeply spiritual practice of self-compassion and curiosity of the human experience.
I also make a very conscious effort to incorporate things that bring me a sense of joy and mastery into my routine. Some of those things include cooking, roller skating, playing billiards, and striking up conversations with anyone willing to listen and be heard.
Some quotes that are very dear to me:
“I am a human being; therefore, let nothing human be alien to me.”
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow and learn as if you were to live forever.”
“You do not have to believe everything that you think.”
